The Election Commission of India has asked the Law Ministry to link voter ID cards  with Aadhaar. They claim that this will help clean up voter rolls, and that any linkage will be “voluntary”. 

We are deeply concerned by this proposal as it is a dangerous idea which can fundamentally alter the structure of our democracy.
